Send offs at the end of a wedding help make the day fill finished and complete, like the last hurrah to the wonderful event.
One big question that many couples face is how to do a fun or beautiful send off while trying to be eco friendly? This is where I come in! As a photographer I get to see many wonderful examples as well as think of new ones I have never seen and its all here compiled in one easy place with links to where you can buy these eco friendly wedding send offs!
Anyone else as excited as I am to see all the options?
Dried Things
No. 1 Dried Variety
This dried mix is so fun and I think that it is perfect for a spring or summer wedding. Everything is going to be bio-degradable if it isn’t all picked up which is one of the reasons why I love it. One of the downsides to the product link is that it does arrive in plastic packaging so an alternative would be to dry some out yourself to eliminate waste in production packaging and transport.
No. 2 Dried Rose Petal
This option of dried rose petals is great for a pink or red colored wedding theme or if you want more of a cohesive look and one color being thrown up in the air vs tons of colors like the variety packs. This is another one that can be done on your own to eliminate waste in production or transport.
No. 3 Dried Lavender
This will have everything smelling so beautiful like lavender and it has a subtle color so it goes beautiful with virtually any wedding venue or color theme.
No. 4 Dried Leaves
This is such a fun idea especially for a fall wedding! All thats required is a fun date to go collect leaves. They can then be crumpled a little for more of a confetti look (even hole punched for a cohesive size or fun size) or even left whole.
No. 5 Colorful Dried Variety
The list could go on with fun colors and different types of dried floral. On sites like Etsy I found many fun dried packs that were in color themes like an orange and yellow pack, dark blues and greens, or ones that were all ivory and white!

No. 6 Dried Herbs
No. 7 Bubbles
Using bubbles is a great option if your venue is particularly strict on send off products and cleanup that they have to do. As far as eco friendly goes, there is the waste of the plastic but a work around would be get reusable containers and by the soap or bubble mix in bulk preferably at wholesale “bring your own container” type of store if you are trying to eliminate waste.
Bonus point if you donate the bubbles / left overs to a school to give them a second life.

No. 8 Birdseed
I would say that this one is for sure best for an outdoor location. It’s great for the birds and there is no worry about cleaning up afterwords except possibly the walkway so it is generally a option most venues are okay with.
No. 9 Person/Arm Tunnel
Such a fun party vibe with this idea and one of the best parts about it is that the only thing that is needed is your wonderful guests! Zero waste on products and I don’t think it can get more eco friendly than this!
No products needed!

No. 10 Rice
There has been some question on this one and if its okay for birds or not and turns out from all of my research it shows that it actually does not harm the birds which is a good thing. The rice is a great option if you want a white classic look of confetti and not multicolored/earthy colored like the birdseed. For this I would recommend buying the rice at a wholesale or bulk food store but there are online options to purchase.
No. 11 Vintage/ Thrifted Bells
Just picture actual wedding bells going off on your wedding day. Having all the guests ring those wedding bells will create such a beautiful sound and it looks great in pictures and no mess!
Not only does it give a second life to the bells if you thrift them but they can then be used as wedding favors or be donated to a school music program.
No. 12 Recycled Material Bells
This is the came concept as the wedding bells but this is if you would rather purchase than go out and thrift/find. I found this Etsy seller that takes iron tin and gives it a second life making them into bells. Each one has a unique sound but are all beautiful and it would have a uniform look unlike no. 9.
No. 13 Ribbon Wands
There are ribbon wands that you can buy which are linked below but a more eco friendly option would be thrifting the material and using sticks and twigs.
No. 14 Seed Paper
This seed paper is basically what it says! It can be thrown like confetti and then is supposed to sprout flowers. The paper it is in absorbs water germinating it and then biodegrading. This option is one that has to be done in a location that wants or is willing to have mystery flowers pop up!
No. 15 Wildflower Seeds
This is a super cute alternative to the bird seed, wildflower seed. Do the send off somewhere that normally would have wildflowers or a location/private residence that wants wildflowers in that area and happy send off! One precaution would be to do a little research on what wildflowers are local to your area so that they are beneficial to your area.
No. 16 Maracas / Shakers
Perfect idea for a beach or destination style wedding in a tropical place. They sound so cool and its a great party favor to give to your guests afterwords.
bonus Ideas No. 17-20: gourd shaker, shell shaker, coconut maraca, nut/seed shell shaker.
