Summer Couple Bike Ride | Kyleah and Ryan

I was with Kyleah and Ryan for their proposal and a few months later I had an idea of the most perfect summer bike ride engagements idea and reached out to them. They were on board and I was so excited. I wanted this pictures to feel very cinematic and to capture the feeling of summer and the freedom felt when riding a bike as a little kid.

Kyleah and Ryan were so good to go with the flow and were so happy to try all the ideas that I had. Classic engagment pictures are always great but I love adding in more personality and activities into them to really allow it to feel cinematic and for you to do an activity while I document the feelings and emotions.

If this approach resonates with you then here are my best tips to help you navigate deciding what activity you can incorporate that really reflects your unique personality and relationship

Step 1: Discover Your "Why"

Before you even think about locations or outfits, ask yourselves: What makes your love story special?

  • Shared Passions: Are you avid hikers, bookworms, or foodies? Incorporate your hobbies!

  • Memorable Moments: Where did you first meet? What's your favorite date spot? Revisit those places.

  • Personal Style: Are you quirky and playful, or elegant and sophisticated? Let your personalities shine through.

  • The "Vibe": Do you want adventurous, romantic, playful, or intimate? Define the overall feeling you want to capture.

Step 2: Brainstorm Unique Locations & Themes

Forget the generic park. Think outside the box! ( I also have a location guide with over 80 locations I send to all couples I work with to help with this)

  • For the Adventurous Couple:

    • Hiking in a Scenic Location: Capture stunning landscapes and your adventurous spirit.

    • Camping or Glamping: Cozy up by a campfire and embrace the outdoors.

    • Rock Climbing or Kayaking: Show off your active side and create dynamic shots.

  • For the Urban Couple:

    • Your Favorite Coffee Shop or Bookstore: Capture the warmth and intimacy of your shared spaces.

    • A Street Art Mural: Use vibrant colors and urban backdrops for a modern vibe.

    • A Rooftop with City Views: Enjoy a breathtaking panorama and create romantic silhouettes.

  • For the Nostalgic Couple:

    • The Place You First Met: Recreate your first encounter and capture the magic.

    • An Arcade or Vintage Shop: Embrace retro vibes and playful moments.

    • A Fair or Carnival: Capture fun, whimsical, and colorful photos.

  • Themed Sessions:

    • A specific decade: 1920's, 1950's, 1970's, etc.

    • A favorite movie or book: Recreate iconic scenes.

    • A seasonal theme: Fall foliage, winter wonderland, spring blooms, summer beach day.

Step 3: Styling & Props

  • Outfits: Choose outfits that reflect your personal style and complement the location. Consider bringing multiple outfits for variety. I also have an outfit guide I send to all couples I am working with and am happy to give you my opinion if you are having a hard time deciding.

  • Props: Use props that are meaningful to your relationship or enhance the theme. Examples:

    • Picnic basket and blanket

    • Musical instruments

    • Books or games

    • Pets

    • Favorite food or drinks

  • Personal Touches: Incorporate sentimental items like a handwritten letter, a favorite piece of jewelry, or a shared souvenir.

Step 4: Embrace the Moment

  • Relax and Have Fun: Don't be afraid to be yourselves and let your personalities shine through.

  • Communicate with Your Photographer: Share your ideas and feedback throughout the session.

  • Focus on Each Other: Remember, these photos are a celebration of your love. Enjoy the moment!

Bonus Tip: Consider a "day in the life" session, where your photographer documents a typical date or activity. This can result in incredibly authentic and candid photos.

By thinking outside the box and focusing on what makes your relationship unique, you can create an engagement session that is truly unforgettable. Ditch the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary!
